CAMPAIGN INTRODUCTION
Resilience
In response to the urgent need for education and action around gun safety in schools, Resilience was created to merge art with evidence-based education, engagement, and grassroots organizing to foster a sense of urgency, agency, and impact toward creating safer communities.
WATCH THE STORY UNFOLD
This initiative centers on the creation of 25 pairs of five-foot soft resin butterflies, each responding to one of the 25 deadliest mass shootings in the United States. Rather than depicting the tragedies themselves, the works honor the strength and resilience of the communities affected.
From each pair, one butterfly will be permanently donated to the place impacted by the atrocity. Its mate will travel through galleries, museums, and events before finding a home with a collector, with all proceeds supporting organizations working to address gun violence.
These transformative works of fine art represent both remembrance and hope, with 100% of proceeds directly supporting our charity partners who are leading the way in education, community dialogue, and action for safer communities.

Collector’s Edition 1
Each butterfly in the Resilience campaign represents a story of transformation, remembrance, and hope. The Littleton, CO shooting occurred on April 20, 1999, at Columbine High School, where two students opened fire on classmates and teachers. This atrocity, one of the most infamous school shootings in U.S. history, forever changed the national dialogue around school safety, gun control, and the psychological factors behind such attacks.
This handcrafted miniature honors the Columbine community with the same care and symbolism as its larger counterpart. The butterfly seeks to reclaim and restore the original meaning of the word “Columbine,” which has become synonymous with school shootings. Its wings portray a peaceful grassy field filled with delicate columbine flowers — symbols of natural beauty, growth, and life, and a reminder of what the name once represented. Each piece serves as a quiet tribute to lives lost and a reminder of what we continue to hope for.
This is Collector’s Edition 1 in a series of limited miniatures created by the Butterfly Art Collective. Within this edition are 12 individually crafted pieces, each one-of-a-kind in shape and detail. While united by a common design inspiration, no two are exactly alike—ensuring that every collector receives a singular work from this debut release. Each piece includes a numbered and stamped certificate of authenticity from the Butterfly Art Collective.
100% of proceeds support our nonprofit partners driving healing and systemic change.

Collector’s Edition 1
Each butterfly in the Resilience campaign represents a story of transformation, remembrance, and hope. The Uvalde, TX shooting occurred on May 24, 2022, at Robb Elementary School, where a gunman opened fire, killing 21 people, including 19 children and 2 teachers. The atrocity devastated this predominantly Hispanic community near the U.S.–Mexico border and became one of the deadliest school shootings in U.S. history.
This handcrafted miniature honors the Uvalde community with the same care and symbolism as its larger counterpart. Inspired by the memorial mosaic wall created to remember the victims, the butterfly features a mosaic tile pattern — each piece representing the children, teachers, and community members forever linked by this atrocity. Carefully arranged, the tiles reflect how the community, though shattered, has come together in solidarity and strength. Each piece serves as a quiet tribute to lives lost and a reminder of what we continue to hope for.

THE CONCEPT
-
The butterfly embodies resilience through its life cycle and enduring nature. Emerging from a cocoon after irreversible transformation, it symbolizes overcoming adversity and embracing change. Its delicate wings, capable of withstanding long migrations and harsh weather, reflect strength found in vulnerability.
-
Bullet casings associated with the weapons used in each shooting will be shredded and incorporated as an act of transforming an object of lethal violence into fragmentary reminders of the beauty of resilience.
-
Real world objects and mementos will be embedded into the works as a subtle reminder of the innocence lost.
STRENGTH.
INNOCENCE.
TRANSFORMATION.
Bold Expression Through Color & Material
As a symbol of both the fragility of life and the resilience of survivors, our butterflies are crafted from flexible yet durable resin with wingspans up to five feet. Each piece serves as a compelling visual narrative, featuring colors, abstract representations, and embedded found objects inspired by the resilience of the affected communities while emphasizing our shared responsibility to prevent future atrocities.
